One of the most important things to learn as an affiliate marketer is how to find the best affiliate products to sell.
To answer this question, I'll break this article down into 3 steps -
1) Find the niche
2) Find the product
3) Find the keywords
Step 1: Finding the niche
So you know that you want to be an affiliate marketer, but you're not sure what you want to promote.
In fact, you don't even know what niche you want to promote!
The best way to find a great niche is to look around to see what people are buying.
Here's just a few places to look/ask around:
- Amazon.com's hot sellers
- Friends and family (what are they buying?
- Time of year (is it December? People are buying coats and ski stuff. Likewise in the summer they'll be buying bathing suits and pool stuff).
- Retail stores. Ask the clerks if people seem to be buying a lot right now.
- Dmoz.org (this is a huge database with all kinds of information).
From checking out these sources, hopefully you'll start to see trends. Maybe everyone is buying a certain brand of TV this year?
Or a certain kind of computer game (like strategy games for example) might be really hot.
Identifying these trends lets you find possible niches, which is the first step in finding hot affiliate products.
Step 2: Find the product.
OK so now you know what niche you're in, and just have to find exactly what product to promote.
Hopefully you found certain products that are hot during Step 1. Think about it- when you saw that a lot of XYZ TVs are selling right now, was there a certain model that really stood out?
If not, start doing more research deep into your niche. Find out what questions people are asking, and what products they're asking about.
For physical items, check out Amazon or eBay. For eBooks and membership sites, you can check out ClickBank Analytics.
Go to a specialty store for your niche and ask what's selling. For example if your niche is golf clubs go to a store that sells only golf equipment (or maybe sports equipment, but that's getting broad). Ask the clerk what's hot right now, and you just found your product to promote online!
Just go online and try typing "product name + affiliate" and see what comes up. If after a little searching you are still having trouble finding an affiliate program for your product, you may have to bite the bullet and find another product to promote.
Step 3: Find the keywords
Now you have your product, you're signed up for your affiliate program, and you're ready to find the keywords to advertise. Lucky for us, there are TONS of tools out there to help identify good keywords with low competition.
Google's keyword tool is one of the best, but Wordtracker is nice too.
When using these keyword tools, look for low traffic estimates, preferably under 5,000 per month.
The reason for this is that smaller keyword phrases which will have more traffic will also have MUCH more competition.
You see knowing how to find the best affiliate product to sell is just half of the battle. The rest is marketing to a very narrow niche with low competition.
Yes your keywords will be longer than you may like, but you may also be the top marketer with those keywords.
Basically, in affiliate marketing when you first start it's better to be a big fish in a little pond than a little fish in a big pond.
Once you've identified your long keyword phrases with low competition, you're set! Now you can start marketing via articles, blogging, PPC, or whatever else suits your fancy.
I hope these three steps to knowing how to find the best affiliate products to sell was helpful. Remember that the more research and preparation you perform, the better your results will turn out. Good luck!
