Sponsored tweets do we need them ?
This month a marketing firm called IZEA are going to launch sponsored tweets. This network will be connecting advertisers with tweeters that want to get paid to tweet.
Already people are criticising this move as it is just encouraging users to make money from their followers Thelaunch comes just as the Federal Trade Commission is looking to crack down on bloggers who give a positive review to a product or service without disclosing that the company is paying them to do so.
Ted Murphy, CEO of IZEA, says sponsored tweeting is already happening.
Here's how "Sponsored Tweets" will work:
After someone signs up for an account with Twitter then they will be matched with advertisers that are willing to pay for Tweets. If you have a large following you will be paid more but you will have to disclose the tweets that you are getting paid for.
With only 140 characters to tweet with then advertising with a disclosure is going to be very hard to do.
Now, the FTC is looking to enforce disclosure. For instance, if a college student with a personal blog writes a favourable review about a new gaming system that he got for free but doesn't disclose it, the blogger could be held liable under the FTC's proposed rules.
You can sign up at http://www.SponseredTweets.com and they have had 400 people join already.
This is something that i am not infavour of as the people who stand to make the most from it would be the celebs as that are bound to have loads of followers. So this definately not for me. What's you opinion on this
